About Pope Tech

Pope Tech's mission is to create an accessible internet for people with disabilities by empowering web creators. We build software, training, and resources that make accessibility easier to understand and apply.

Whether we're helping someone answer a quick question, learn a new skill, or solve a challenging accessibility problem, our goal is the same: help people succeed.

That means communication matters. We view content as a design opportunity, not just words on a page. We write, format, and create intentionally so people can get what they need as easily as possible.

The Role

We're looking for a Content Designer to help create content of all types that makes accessibility easier to understand and apply.

This role goes beyond writing. You'll research topics, identify learner and customer needs, design content experiences, and create content that helps people achieve specific outcomes.

You'll contribute to a wide variety of content types, including courses, slide decks, blog articles, help documentation, email campaigns, videos, social media content, and other customer-facing resources.

The ideal candidate is someone who loves learning, can independently research unfamiliar topics, and consistently applies feedback to improve future work. Accessibility experience is a plus, but a willingness and ability to learn is more important.

What You'll Work On

  • Contribute to a growing library of accessibility courses and learning resources.
  • Research topics and translate complex concepts into practical, easy-to-understand content.
  • Write and maintain blog posts, help with documentation, email campaigns, social content, and video scripts.
  • Design content around specific learner, customer, and business goals.
  • Maintain updated platform release notes and product communication with customers.
  • Manage and publish content using various platforms and tools.

What We're Looking For

Content Designer

You see content as a tool for helping people accomplish something, not simply as words on a page.

  • Experience creating content with a specific audience and goal in mind.
  • Ability to research topics and translate complex concepts into clear, useful content.
  • Thinks beyond writing to consider learning, usability, and customer outcomes.
  • Balances user needs, business goals, and technical accuracy.
  • Understands that different formats require different approaches, whether it's a course, help article, email, video, or blog post.
  • Evaluates content based on whether it helps people accomplish something, not just whether it's well written.

Mindset

We're looking for someone who is curious, coachable, and willing to learn.

  • Can independently research unfamiliar subjects and become proficient quickly.
  • Actively seeks feedback and applies it to future work.
  • Enjoys learning new topics and skills.
  • Takes ownership of projects and follows through on commitments.
  • Is comfortable working through ambiguity and figuring things out.

Writing and Organization

Strong communication and organization skills are essential.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to organize information in a way that is clear and easy to follow.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and teammates.
  • Able to maintain consistency in voice, tone, and quality across content types.

Nice to Have

These skills are helpful but not required.

  • Accessibility or digital accessibility experience.
  • Instructional design or adult learning experience.
  • Experience with WordPress or other CMS platforms.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS), including Odoo.
  • Experience with email marketing tools such as Kit.
  • Experience creating or editing videos using tools such as Vyond.
  • SEO content strategy experience.
  • Experience using analytics to evaluate content performance.

Compensation

Part-time, remote position.

Compensation range: $20–$40 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability.

A Note on Fit

This role isn’t for everyone.

If you prefer highly structured environments, narrowly defined responsibilities, or a role focused on a single content type, this likely won't be a good fit.

If you look at communication as an opportunity to get your message to someone who needs it, enjoy owning tasks end-to-end, and like the idea of building content strategy with a small team, you’ll probably thrive here.
